Object Inheritance
Updated
by Andrew Dotto
Purpose
This article is to help you understand the function of Object Inheritance and how you can use this to your benefit when managing your DRS instance.
Inheritance
Inheritance in DRS can be used in multiple ways. It can help control functionality, data availability, default data entries and menu options.
There are multiple ways to set inheritance within the product, the application of the inheritance in all conditions are applied in the same way though. Inheritance is applied from the most global application to the least global.
Object Inheritance
For example;
- You set the possible values on an Object on a Job Template

- You set the Possible values on the Object on a Follow on Template

- You set the possible values for an Object on a Profile.

If the user has access to all three items, the user will be provided the possible values for the Object as set on the Profile.
Permissions Inheritance
When setting Permission and Authorisation access grants, the Inheritance order works in a similar way.
- If an Authorisation is set at the Profile level
- And a conflicting Authorisation is set at the Screens and Features level
The permission set at the Screens and Features level will be applied to all Profiles.
NOTE: If an Authorisation is set at a Support level specifically by Advanced employees,
The permission set at the Support level will be applied to all Profiles.
