How your Data Links Together

Andrew Dotto Updated by Andrew Dotto

Inheritance in DRS allows configuration to be applied consistently across the system while still allowing more specific settings where required. By defining rules at broader levels and allowing them to flow down to more detailed levels, inheritance helps administrators manage functionality, defaults and data access more efficiently without needing to configure the same behaviour repeatedly. In DRS, Inheritance can be used in multiple ways. It can help control functionality, data availability, default data entries and menu options.

Object Inheritance

For example;

  1. You set the possible values on an Object on a Job Template
  1. You set the Possible values on the Object on a Follow on Template
  1. You set the possible values for an Object on a Profile.

If the user has access to all three items, the user will be provided the possible values for the Object as set on the Profile.

Permissions Inheritance

When setting Permission and Authorisation access grants, the Inheritance order works in a similar way.

  1. If an Authorisation is set at the Profile level
  2. And a conflicting Authorisation is set at the Screens and Features level

The permission set at the Screens and Features level will be applied to all Profiles.

NOTE: If an Authorisation is set at a Support level specifically by Advanced employees,

The permission set at the Support level will be applied to all Profiles.
